Creativity, Imagination, Language Skills, Computer Skills — all come into play in this Junior project. Students made their own stories around the theme of ‘Schools’ – they first planned it all on a storyboard, used Internet images filtered for reuse or created their own on Pixie 3 and then put it all together using Photostory3. As part of Project Imagine-action, students in the Grade 3/4 class had been learning about Human Rights. They got a chance to explore this important concept and then they created posters for the school about human rights and how we can all be better human beings. As a culmination project, they created powerpoints about some Canadian Human Right Defenders. It is their first time using Powerpoint. Although these students are little (and it shows in their work), yet what they have learnt and produced is big!

Grade 2 got creative this year while using the program Pixie-2 to create digital stories of their own. Some are about them, some are recounts of stories they have heard while others come purely out of their own imagination. Great job, kiddos!

Digestive System Tours

Our Grade 5 students learnt about the Digestive System in a really neat way this year. They used Google Sketchup to create 3-D animations of the system. It was wonderful to see them maneuvering around the complex software to create meaningful, appealing animations. They then gave a tour through the system with screencasting programs – some liked ScreenR while most preferred Jing. On the side they were engaged in purposeful conversations about the topic using an online discussion forum – Pepper. It was amazing to see how technology can transform teaching and learning in some cool ways.

The Little Red Hen: Now Digital :)

The students in our Grade 2 class wanted to present the idea of responsibility to the rest of the school during an assembly. When they read the story of the ‘Little Red Hen’, they realized how important it was to be responsible and helpful. They created a digital version of the story in the computer lab and showed it to the school. Enjoy:

Beauty and the Beast

While Mrs. Cies’ and Mrs. Brown’s Grade 1 classes were learning to be respectful, their teachers read them the story of ‘Beauty and the Beast’. The students made connections to how the story has examples of respect in it. For the school assembly, they showed the school the following video made out of pictures that they drew about the story (using the program Pixie) read out loud in their own voices. So, turn up your computer volume and enjoy the story:
